Bad Schandau Stadtpark Terminal

This is the in-town tramway terminal since 23.06.1969. The original Hotel Lindenhof Terminal was located 350 m. further into the center of the town. 2-car trains are used most of the times during a spring-to-fall season.

Additional trailers are usually stationed at each terminal when 2-car trains are in use, to provide extra capacity for planned or unplanned heavier trips. Car 25 is unique - this the only trailer of the B2-64 type, built as late as 1966.

All cars are completely cosmetically refurbished. Except for unauthentic but more comfortable seats, traditional Gotha-car interior remains intact. Doors on the north side are blocked off as all stops are located on the south side.

Trams line up at a temporary single track stub-end terminal, one stop short of the town, while the in-town section of the line is being rebuilt. The pictured section was already rebuilt the GDR style, with concrete blocks used for a trackbed, while the road surface was left in shambles. Old signature poles were replaced with more modern ones. At the time of this photo ex-Lockwitztalbahn Gotha/AEG motor cars of the Erfurt type were the only motor cars in operation, while most trailers were of a somewhat newer standard GDR-built Gotha type.

A single-track operation is maintained via the most reliable method - by way of passing a single rod that corresponds to each section of the track. Each rod exchange is accompanied by a leisurely chat between drivers. While a late afternoon city-bound trip on a weekend is served with a 3-car train, an outbound trip is served with a 2-car train.

The sign places most responsibility on westbound motorists. If end up driving in parallel with a westbound tram moving in the eastbound traffic lane, a westbound car is to stop and allow an eastbound car to swerve away from a path of the tram into the westbound lane. Such operation is only possible under light traffic conditions.
