The final stretch of Bahnhofstrasse is converted into a pedestrian-and-tram-only mall. The car in this photo is moving away from the camera, toward the city center. At the time of this photo 3 out of 7 all-electric low-floor Combino trams were double-ended cars (105-107), even though there was no direct need for that due to all city tram terminals being equipped with loops.

Landgrabenstrasse

Upon the city-block-wide one-way Bahnhofsplatz Loop being built, the Main Railroad Station-bound trams were pushed off onto the secondary Landgrabenstrasse. In addition to a track split in Bahnhofspaltz itself, there is a supplemental hold-off siding at the Sudharz-Galerie Stop, one stop prior to the Terminal.

The junction between the Bahnhofsplatz Line and the single-track Grimmelallee Line, located near by, was rebuilt in the early 2000s, upon which the double-track curve was replaced with the single-track curve plus this cross-over on Bahnhofstrasse. The cross-over is used for moves between the Bahnhofsplatz Terminal and the Depot, located on the Grimmelallee Line. The new move includes a brief run against motorized traffic.

The new Rautenstrasse is being laid amid the post-World War II distraction. The old tram line terminates in a temporary stub end to make way for the construction of the new line. Unlike the old line, which followed the siding, the new double-track line is being built in the middle of the street.

The old layout of the central Markt and Kornmarkt squares. The single-track tram line could be seeing diverging to the left, curving around the monuments in the middle of the Kornmarkt square. This is the old northern spur of the line to Altentor, via Barfusserstrasse, which existed between 1900 and 1922.

Tram pauses at the central Rathaus/Kornmarkt Stop. At this point Rautenstrasse narrows down, with trams operating in mixed-traffic. A Duo-Combino diesel-electric tram is seeing serving the electric-only city Line 2. At the time of this photo the spare factor for low-floor trams was tight, as there were 7 electric and 3 duo-trams on the property, with 9 needed for service. As only 2 duo-trams were needed for the suburban Line 10, one remaining duo-tram often worked the city lines.
