Gas (benzin) locomotives operated upon the opening of the line in 1910. The line was electrified in 1914.

Tram Line 88 acts as a feeder to the S-bahn - the Friedrichshagen S-bahn Station is visible in the background in this photo.

Fiedrichshagen, Schoneicher Str. / Am Damm
CKD KT4D
The only two serviceable CKD trams (as of the day of this photo) meet just outside of the Friedrichshagen Loop. Since the total one-way running time for the entire line is 31 min., when the 30 min. headway is in effect, opposing trams barely miss one another at the end of the line. The subsequent layover at the Terminal is thus almost equal the full 30 min. interval.

Schoneicher Landstrasse
Dueweg GT6
Between the Friedrichshagen S-bahn Station and the town of Schoneiche the line traverses through the Berlin Wald (Berlin Forest). Unfortunately, tracks follow the siding of the motor road for almost the entire 4.1 km.-long stretch through the woods. At the time of this photo, made on Sunday, the inbound track was under construction, with a single-track operation maintained via the outbound track.

Schoneiche, Kirschenstrasse / Ahornstrasse
CKD KT4D
Upon entering the town of Schoneiche from the west, trams follow a tranquil suburban Kirschenstrasse in mixed traffic. The tramway right-of-way essentially stands for a street, even though motorized traffic is almost non-existent. This section was rebuilt during the last years of the DDR.

Schoneiche, Dorfstrasse / Rahndorfstrasse
CKD KT4D
Tram passes by the Depot in the Schoneiche town center. East of the Depot the line becomes a single-track.

Schoneiche, Dorfstrasse
Raw Sw TZ70 + Raw Sw BZ70 + Raw Sw BZ70
Prior to 2001 the section of the line through the centralmost part of the town of Schoneiche was a single-track mixed traffic arrangement with the track following the western curbside of Dorfstrasse. This way, outbound trams conflicted with motorized traffic head-on. 2-axle Reko trams operated regularly until 1994.

Schoneiche, Shoneicher Str. / Weissheimer Str.
Dueweg GT6
Upon a radical reconstruction project being carried out in 2001, the track was relocated from the western curbside of Dorfstrasse, onto a reservation via the eastern roadside. The section remained single-track.

Schoneiche, Forfstrasse / Shoneicher Str.
CKD KT4D
East of Schoneiche the line boasts a number of rebuilt double-tracked sections. Most rebuilding and double-tracking took place under the DDR.

Schoneiche, Kalkberger Str. / Jagerstrasse
Dueweg GT6
Between towns of Schoneiche and Rudersdorf the line follows a busy Kalkberger Strasse, essentially a suburban highway. At the point shown, the line becomes a single-track again.

Schoneiche, Kalkberger Str. / Vogelsang
CKD KT4D
Unrebuilt single-track sections of the line still boast an old interurban character. Even though the line traverses largely overdeveloped Berlin suburbs, occasional open fields and farmsteads could still be found alongside.

Rudersdorf, Kalkberger Str. / Berghof Weiche
Dueweg GT6
The eastern half of the line is entirely single-track.

A rather atypical photo-op with the surviving farmstead alongside the line. The tram stop is located right near the busy highway interchange with the Berlin Autobahnring (conveniently left out behind the scene).

The only surviving section of a curbside single-track mixed right-of-way remains in the Rudersdorf town center. Outbound trams conflict with oncoming motorized traffic head-on.

Rudersdorf, Strasse der Jugend / Hans-Striegelski-Strasse
Dueweg GT6
Prior to 1977 the line used to diverge to the right via Strasse der Jugend (in the background of this photo) toward former Markt Platz. The entire eastern part of the town of Rudersdorf, however, was destroyed under the DDR, swallowed by the expanding open-cut industrial chalk pit. The pictured tram turns toward Alt-Rudersdorf via the new post-1977 substitute extension.

The post-1977 location of the outer terminal of the line looks rather arbitrary, as the line seems to end in the middle of nowhere. There is a sizeable apartment block development, however, hidden away to the south of the main road.

As of the date of this photo, a total of 12 Duewag GT6 cars were acquired second-hand from Heidelberg since 1999. Out of those, only 7 cars were assembled for passenger service.

Saw Sw TZ70; Dueweg GT6
Some of Deuwag GT6 cars acquired second-hand from Heidelberg were never used in service. Some of these cars even kept old Heidelberg fleet numbers, such as car 240 on the right. The latter car was used for parts and promptly scrapped soon after this photo was taken.

There were 2 different Duewag GT6 cars numbered 43 in the history of the enterprise. The latest car 43 at the time of this photo took the given fleet number over from the old 43 that was scrapped upon being used for parts.
