NETWORK DESCRIPTION

[as of 05.2006]

High-density tramline grid and abundance of tram services seem to be at odds with relatively small size of the city. Some photogenic lines through the old town are altered with somewhat monotonous outer lines, but compensated with green suburban lines to the north, as well as with the only official high-speed Light Rail line in Poland. The city boasts the most number of full grand unions in Poland, if not in the world, namely 6 grand unions, with the newest one opened in 2007. All of the above, combined with most variety of rolling stock in Poland, make this city a pure tramfan heaven.

SERVICE

[05.2006]

The system displays exemplary timetable adherence and predictable service. When the above qualities are combined with short headways and many overlapping lines, it leaves a remarkable impression that trams are the omnipresent feature of the city.

THE BEST OF POZNAN

[05.2006]

01. Most Teatralny, Fredry, 27 Grudnia - The best views with the semi-historic city center as the backdrop.
02. Sw. Marcina - Grand boulevard with notable architectural masterpieces, dwindled by an ensemble of overwhelmingly socialist-era buildings.
03. Strezelecka - Old narrow thoroughfare with trams.
04. Macieja Mielzynskiego / 23 Lutego - A grand square.
05. Roosvelta north of Dabrowskiego - Notable elegant houses as a backdrop; the entrance ramp to the Light Rail Line culminating with two tramway lines crossing by way of split-level crossover.
06. Winogrady - The semi-suburban line on a very tight siding.
07. The line to Wilczak - The short but very suburban line amid lush greenery.
08. The line to Piatkowska - The long line of suburban nature, almost entirely on the reservation through the ragged terrain via city's outskirts.
09. The Light Rail Line Os. Jana III Sobieskiego - The only genuine Light Rail Line in Poland; complete segregation; elaborate tramway stations.
10. Warszawska to Milostowo - The reserved right-of-way on a spacious siding; the line ends in the forest.
11. Wierzbiecice / Gorna Wilda - Narrow streets with trams in mixed traffic.
12. Glogowska between Dworzec PKP and Hetmanska - Grand avenue.
13. Hetmanska between Glogowska and 28 Czerwca 1956 - An underpass under the railroad yard, reminiscent of the tunnel.
