A small trolleybus network practically covers the entire town. Passenger patronage went down considerably through the 2000s due to competition from private carriers. Hence, some cutbacks were implemented in the early 2010s. The Line 56 Ivanovo – Shkola 19 was suspended on 16.05.2012 due to low ridership. The segment between AO Khimprom and Zh.D.Stantsiya in the industrial park was closed on 01.09.2012 due to low ridership and poor road surface condition, the Lines 53, 55, 55K were shortened and the Line 51 was suspended, the wiring was promptly removed on 10.09.2012. The Lines 54 and 55 were suspended in 2013, with only variants 54K and 55K (where “K” stands for “korotkiy” or “short”) remaining in service. In 2014 the network was somewhat optimized. The Voinov-Internatsianalistov Ulitsa loop was dismantled, and the wiring in one of the two directions of travel was removed from the western segment of the line via Vinokurova Ulitsa, formerly used by the Lines 54 and 55. In place of those the short 350-meter long one-way segment via Voinov-Internatsianalistov Ulitsa between the former loop and the nearby Shkola 19 Terminal was opened on 19.12.2014, and the former Line 56 was restored via an optimized circular pattern.

Trolleybuses operate on relatively short headways, the service is reliable. The timetable, however, is inconsistent, with trolleybuses serving common routes often operating bunched in pairs, and with discouraging breaks in service due to lunches and shift changes.
