At the time of this photo the Line 5 was briefly bustituted due to trolleybus rolling stock and personnel shortages. Municipal trolleybuses and diesel buses are under the same management, which provides for easy substitutions between modes.

Diesel Bus
The city of Tambov is overwhelmed by diesel buses. Moreover, at the time of this photo some trolleybuses services were substituted with diesel buses due to rolling stock shortages. Consecutively trolleybuses appeared at the city’s Main Railroad Stations 3 times an hour. This was further reduced on the day in question to 1 trolleybus an hour due to equipment breakdowns. This prompted the author to settle for a shot of the city’s premier thoroughfare dominated with diesel buses.

At the time of this photo the Lines 3 and 20, served with 2 and 1 vehicles respectively, were the only trolleybus services to operate via Internatsionalnaya Ul. to the Main Railroad Station. However, due to breakdowns, on this particular late afternoon the given trolleybus was the sole vehicle left to serve the entire line.

At the time of this photo there were 14 such Vologda-built low floor vehicles on the property (13 considering one of them catching fire on 01.2011). The line via Krasnaya Ul. used to be two-way, but was rewired into a one-way line due to traffic pattern changes in 1995. The contraflow overhead still remains, unconnected.

A trolleybus serving the Line 6 operates via a diversion route due to closure of Sovetskaya Ul. for road works. Ever since changes in traffic patterns in the city center took place in 1995, this intersection is in dire need of the south-east overhead turnoff from Bazarnaya Ul. onto Internatsionalnaya Ul. - the right turn for the given trolleybus. In absence of this option, the trolleybus makes the left turn in order to detour as far as through the Main Railroad Station loop, three stops away.

At the time of this photo only one trolleybus of this type remained on the property. 7 other such trolleybuses were brought in 2007 by the Vologda Holding Company with privatization of the enterprise, but they left the city with that operator pulling out in 2009. This particular vehicle, though, was fully paid for by the city, and thus, stayed behind.
