ZiU-682G 42. Line 9, Aeroport Plekhanovo-bound. Trolleybus leaves the city's main line via Respubliki Ul. and turns onto the Aeroport Plekhanovo line. The line was opened in 1974 and goes through the peripheral neighborhoods to the south of the Transsib railroad. As of the time of this photo, the only service to operate to Aeroport Plekhanovo was Line 9, which linked it with Avtovokzal in the eastern suburbs, rather than the city center. In fact, the Aeroport Plekhanovo line was never connected to the city center by any of the services ever to operate here. (30 Jan 2007, YM) |

Trolleybus returns from Aeroport Plekhanova and is pictured at the junction with the Lenina Ul. line (branching off to viewers' right) at the fringes of the city center. Prior to crossing the Transsib railroad, while still within the main area of the city, the Aeroport Plekhanovo line runs via a wide boulevard composed of Morisa Toreza Ul. and Profsoyuznaya Ul. ZiU-682G 42. Line 9, Aeroport Plekhanovo-bound. Trolleybus traverses through peripheral neighborhoods on 'the other' side of the Transsib railroad. As of the time of this photo, Line 9 remained the only trolleybus service in the city that still enjoyed adequate demand. The headway was maintained at about 12 min throughout the day, while competition from private carriers was minimal. This resulted in consistently impressive loads. (30 Jan 2007, YM) |

ZiU-682G 42. Line 9, Aeroport Plekhanovo-bound. Trolleybus leaves local main thoroughfare, Moskovskiy Trakt Ul. (Moscow Highway), and diverts into a shabby village-like Mayak neighborhood. A sizeable development of new apartment blocks, Yuzhniy Mikrorayon, is located nearby, further down Moskovskiy Trakt Ul., but trolleybuses do not go there. (30 Jan 2007, YM) |

The Aeroport Plekhanovo extension and Line 9 will be closed half a year after this photo was taken, the official excuse being a construction of a railroad overpass at Profsoyuznaya Ul.
