Map with photo locations

2-01. The main thoroughfare Pushkina Ul. is remarkably unremarkable. This street is served by trolleybuses in its entirety, yet it is hard to find any scenic location worth of taking a picture. Trolleybus lines somehow manage to avoid the most presentable older parts of the city. 18 is pictured here serving route 3 as it passes right next to the main railroad station in the city centre. (25.06.2003, Vladimir Podkorytov)
2-02. The newest as per the date of this picture trolleybus 31 is working route 6 as it heads from the Abakanskaya terminus towards the city centre. It crosses the motorway that branches off Abakanskaya Ulitsa toward the bridge over the Abakan River, and farther out toward the cities of Sayanogorsk and Cheremushki. Abakanskaya Ul. is the continuation of main Pushkina Ulitsa, yet at this point it narrows down and becomes a secondary roadway, eventually leading to the trolleybus terminus shown in this picture at the far end of the street. (13.09.2004, YM)
2-03. Trolleybus 05 is resting at the Abakanskaya terminus, at the end of Abakanskaya Ul., near the Abakan River and railroad bridge of the Sayanogorsk line. Routes 2A, 3, 3A and 6 terminated here as of 2004. Trolleybus in the photo is serving route 2A. The line to Abakanskaya used to continue on beyond this terminus, some 300 meters further to the Rechnoy Vokzal terminus (a passenger pier and a riverfront terminal). The segment was closed in 1992, all wires dismantled. By 2004 there were no signs left neither of the trolleybus line or the passenger terminal on the river. (13.09.2004, YM)
2-04. This photo is taken on the opposite end of main Pushkina Ul. Trolleybus 35 is circling around the square at the intersection of Pushkina Ul. and Mira Ul. as it heads toward DK "Zheleznodorozhnik". Routes 5, 5A and 6 branch off here from the main line. 35 is one of the newest vehicle of ZIU-682G type. (02.12.2005, Vladimir Borodin)
2-05. Trolleybus 20 passes through the same square as it operates via route 2A from Zoopark to Abakanskaya. (13.09.2004, YM)
2-06. Trolleybus 04 serves route 1A as it crosses Volodarskogo Ul. via Pushkina Ul. This is the beginning of the city's industrial area. Residential houses vanish and Pushkina Ulitsa becomes wider, dustier and unattractive. Beyond Volodarskogo Ul. routes 1A, 2A and 4 operate via a lengthy loop along Pushkina Ul., Sovetskaya Ul. and Volodarskogo Ul. thus pass near the zoo and the depot. Upon suspension of route 2, this segment of the line on Pushkina Ul. is now operated in one direction only, outbound from the city centre, the other side remaining out of service. (13.09.2004, YM)
2-07. Trolleybus 03 is turning from Pushkina Ul. onto Sovetskaya Ul., toward the depot and city centre. This is the farthest point served by routes 1A, 2A and 4. The Zoopark (the Zoo) terminus is located around the corner to the left. The trolleybus line continues on further down Sovetskaya Ul., into industrial park, toward the PO "Vagonmash" terminus. It is supposedly served by occasional trips of route 1, none of which were observed during the visit in 2004. The zoo is located in the industrial area of town, which, considering the rate of pollution, makes one feel sorry for animals. (13.09.2004, YM)
2-08. One of the newest as of a date of this photo trolleybus of ZIU-682G type numbered 35 is pictured on Sovetskaya Ul. near the depot. It serves route 2A and heads back toward the city centre. (25.06.2003, Vladimir Podkorytov)
2-09. The same trolleybus 35 in different color scheme during the winter, 2,5 years later. The vehicle is about to enter the depot. (08.12.2005, Vladimir Borodin)
2-10. Trolleybus 03 heads toward the city centre as it completes a loop via the zoo and the depot. The picture is taken on Volodarskogo Ul. This vehicle will be the oldest one noted in service on the date of the visit. The oldest vehicle on the roster is 02. (13.09.2004, YM)
2-11. Trolleybus 11 operates via route 5 as it is pictured on Stofato Ul. en-route to DK "Zheleznodorozhnik". This line was built in 1987 and happens to be the last substantial extension of the network. Routes 5, 5A and 6 operate via this line. During the visit in 2004 the combined headway between these routes was around 20 minutes. (13.09.2004, YM)
2-12. The trolleybus turnaround at the DK "Zheleznodorozhnik" terminus is located in the middle of the widened intersection of Stofato Ul. and Piryatinskaya Ul. This terminus was previously known as DK MPS, which could still be reflected by some destination signs. (13.09.2004, YM)
2-13. Trolleybus 11 is about to depart from the DK "Zheleznodorozhnik" terminus and head back to the city centre. (13.09.2004, YM)
2-14. A year earlier colorful trolleybus 08 completes the same turn in front of DK "Zheleznodorozhnik" (the "Railroad Worker" Palace of Culture) as it operates on route 5. (25.06.2003, Vladimir Podkorytov)
