3-01a. Solombala.

3-02. Gagarina Ul. / Troitskiy Pr.
LM-93 516 Line 1, Uritskogo-bound.
A tram is coming off the Kuznechevskiy bridge during last days of revenue service between the mainland and Solombala. Line 1 was the only service connecting two parts of the tramway network. Beginning from 15 May 2002 Line 1 will terminate at Gagrina Ul., just off the bridge, at the intersection in this photo.

3-01b. The Kuznechevskiy Bridge
LM-93 525 Line 1, Krasnaya Kuznitsa-bound.
The newest car in the city, delivered in 1995, and the last car ever delivered to Arkhangelsk, crosses the river two days prior to the closure of the bridge for revenue tram service. A need to upgrade the bridge as it supposedly couldn't carry tramway traffic anymore, became the initial excuse for curtailing the network. This started a chain of events that finally culminated in the closure of the entire system 2 years later, on 21 July 2004.

3-03. Troitskiy Pr. between Shubina Ul. / Suvorova Ul.
RVZ-6M2 379 Solombala-bound morning pull-out run.
At the time of this photograph a month later, the Solombala network consisting of Lines 3 and 4 was already separated from the mainland network service-wise, although depot runs were still allowed over the Kuznechevskiy Bridge. It is now 5:56 in the morning. The very first tram of the day, RVZ-6M2 379 is making its way through the deserted city center on a depot pull-out run toward Solombala.

3-04a. The Predmostovaya Ploschad Stop.
RVZ-6M2 379 Solombala-bound morning pull-out run.
The stop in the middle of Predmostovaya Ploschad (Square), prior to crossing the Kuznechevskiy Bridge. The square also serves as a terminal for trolleybuses. After 15 May 2002 it was officially prohibited for trams to carry passengers over the bridge, but in real life all stops were made anyway, and passengers were still being picked up on depot runs.

3-01c. The Kuznechevskiy Bridge.
RVZ-6M2 379 Solombala-bound morning pull-out run.
It is now 6:10 in the morning. 379 crosses the Kuznechevskiy Bridge. As the revenue tram service over the bridge was suspended, the only trams appearing on the bridge were the 4 cars serving the Solombala Lines 3 and 4 during early morning depot pull-out runs, and late evening pull-in runs.

3-05. Taymyrskaya Ul. / Valyavkina Ul.
RVZ-6M2 381 Solombala-bound morning pull-out run.
Car 381 is rolling off the bridge as it follows car 379 depicted above. It is, in turn, followed by car 383 that just appeared at the top of the bridge. All Solombala cars are pulling out of the mainland depot as a group despite various scheduled departure times slots they are assigned to from the Solombala Terminal. Car 381 has just departed the Valyavkina Stop, where it promptly stopped and opened doors even though passengers are not officially allowed at this point. The tram stop placard is visible on the right.

3-01d. The Kuznechevskiy Bridge
RVZ-6M2 409 Depot-bound, evening pull in.
A month later, in July 2002, the same service arrangement was still observed. This time the photographer opted for the evening photo session on the same bridge, capturing a tram during the evening pull-in run.

3-04b. Predmostovaya Pl.
RVZ-6M2 409 Depot-bound, evening pull in.
Tram is rolling off the Kuznechevskiy Bridge toward the mainland area of the city. At the time of this photo the bridge was in danger of a complete closure for reconstruction due to alleged structural weakness. This subsequently spelled a threat of a complete closure of the Solombala tramway network, as there would be no way for trams to get to Solombala from the Depot. After the closure of the Depot 2 in the early 1990s, there were no tram storage or service facilities available in Solombala.

3-06. Valyavkina Ul. / Taymyrskaya Ul.
RVZ-6M2 383 Depot-bound, evening pull in.
The next pull-in run is caught on Valyavkina Ul., which connects the bridge and the Krasnaya Kuznitsa Terminal. The latter Terminal is located at the end of the street in this photo. The sign in the windshield says 'To the Depot'.

3-07. The Krasnaya Kuznitsa Terminal
RVZ-6M2 379 Line 3.
A tram awaits the scheduled departure at the Slombala's southern Krasnaya Kuznitsa Loop, where Lines 3 and 4 terminate. Today car 379 will be the only car assigned to Line 3, which ever since its introduction in 1918 was the northernmost tramway service in the world. At the time of this photo Line 3 was served with one car only operating on a 48-minute headway with daily departures from the Krasnaya Kuznitsa Terminal between 6:22 and 19:10. The timetable was posted for public at the Terminal.

3-08a. Nikolskiy Pr. / Krasnoflotskaya Ul.
RVZ-6M2 381 Line 4, Pervykh Pyatiletok-bound.
It is now 6:23 in the morning. Car 381 has just left the Krasnaya Kuznitsa Terminal on its first trip of the day via Line 4, as it is photographed crossing the Solombalka River. At the time of this photo Line 4 was served with 3 cars operating on a odd combination of headways 24-24-12 with daily departures from Krasnaya Kuznitsa between 6:22 and 21:35. The one car serving Line 3 and the three cars serving Line 4 were the only trams working the entire Solombala network during its final days.

3-08b. Nikolskiy Pr. / Krasnoflotskaya Ul.
RVZ-6M2 381 Line 4, Pervykh Pyatiletok-bound.
All cars assigned to Lines 3 and 4 were older and more reliable RVZ-6M2 cars. This was done to provide higher service reliability, as the Solombala lines were rather remote with respect to the Depot, and as the entire Solombala network was single-track and required adequate service efficiency.

The first passing point for Solombala lines. This early morning outbound car does not face any oncoming traffic.

Another failed attempt to catch cars passing one another. Even though this photo is made during the day, the uneven headway Line 4 is operated with does not render meeting at every passing point.
