Map with photo locations

2-01. Each 2nd train continues northward to 30th Avenue. This three-car train turns north from 19th St on Welton St at the intersection of Welton St / 19th St / Broadway / E 20th Ave. This photo is taken from the wheelchair access ramp at the 20th / Welton Station. (17-June-2005, YM)
2-02. At 24th St tracks merge into a single-track right-of-way on the eastern side of Welton St. Southbound 2-car train passes through the switch as it heads downtown. (17-June-2005, YM)
2-03. Empty cab of the southbound train on the single-track right-of-way on Welton St between 25th & 24th Streets with downtown in the background. For reasons not immediately clear, no stops are provided along a considerable stretch of the line in the relatively well-developed urban area between 20th St and 25th St, although north of 25th stations are provided within every 2 city blocks. One could speculate that two tracks laid in the street did not allow for adequate spacing to build station platforms. (17-June-2005, YM)
2-04. Northbound 3-car train crosses 25th St and enters the 25th / Welton Station. Even though the line uses single-track, there are 2 stations for each direction on each side of the track, including 2 wheelchair access ramps. (17-June-2005, YM)
2-05. Southbound train heads against traffic through the intersection of Welton St / 27th St / Washington St / E 26th Ave. This train just left the 27th / Welton Station. (17-June-2005, YM)
2-06. Northbound train literally runs on the eastern sidewalk of Welton St within brave proximity of the wall of buildings. The destination sign is changed for the opposing direction of travel in anticipation of arriving at the terminal one stop ahead. Car 148 is the newest car of the Siemens-Duewag SD100 type noted in service on the day of this visit. (17-June-2005, YM)
2-07. Northbound train enters a double-track section and turns from Welton St onto Downing St as it approaches the terminal around the corner. Trains' movements are controlled by a special traffic signal. (17-June-2005, YM)
2-08. The 30th / Downing Terminal in the middle of the street prior to the intersection of Downing St / California St / E 30th Ave. (14-Mar-2002, Stefan Mashkevich)
2-08. The 30th / Downing Terminal 3 years later. (17-June-2005, YM)
